Dog Cat and Rabbit half yearly checks.

We believe that good veterinary care is not just an emergency service (although that is very important) it is the total ongoing service of care that we provide.

Naturally we always encourage all clients to make sure that their cats and dogs are vaccinated every year but this is not the whole story. We encourage all our clients with cats and dogs to use quality licensed parasite control products every month of the year. With the arrival of both heartworm and lungworm in the UK it is even more important to use the correct, safe, licensed parasite control.

We recommend the following routine for cats, dogs and rabbits:

Cats:

A visit every 6 months:

Once a year for a booster vaccination against cat flu, feline leukaemia and feline enteritis. At this time a six month course of total parasite control is provided. After 6 months we like to see each cat patient again for a check over and a further 6 month course of parasite control.

Remember – If you keep your cat’s vaccinations and parasite control up to date we give a 20% discount every time!

Dogs:

A visit every 6 months:

Once a year for a booster vaccination against distemper, leptospirosis, parvovirus and viral hepatitis as well as 6 months licensed safe and effective parasite control against fleas, ticks, lice, mange, worms, heartworm and lungworm.

Six months later we insist on dogs having dog again for a kennel cough vaccine (which should not be given at the same time as the main annual vaccination), a quick check and a further 6 month supply of parasite control

Remember – If you keep your dog’s vaccinations and parasite control up to date we give a 20% discount every time!

Rabbits:

Every 6 months rabbits should be vaccinated against myxomatosis. In this part of the UK we have not seen any cases of rabbit viral haemorrhage disease for many years. Whilst this situation continues we do not encourage clients to have their rabbits vaccinated against VHD.. However if there is an outbreak in this part of the UK we will email or write to every rabbit owner client immediately to advise them to consider vaccinating again. We do advise treating rabbits for worms and to be vigilant with fly control to prevent fly strike.
